Employing the wrong person can be disastrous for an organization, and yet many managers find that they need to recruit and select in a hurry. A key employee has resigned and a replacement is needed urgently. If someone can be appointed quickly perhaps the person leaving can train them before they go? Recruitment is often conducted on the hoof, and selection made on the basis of how soon a candidate could start, or how well they would cope with the urgent project at hand, and too often little thought is given to long-term planning.
